Task 3: Digital Triptych

INSTRUCTIONS
The objective of this assignment is to apply Scott McCloud's theory on transitions to create a digital triptych, comprising three panels: one before, one during (climactic turning point), and one after a significant event. Each panel will represent a different transition type from McCloud's theory.

Referencing Scott McCloud's analysis of transitions in "Understanding Comics," you will select one panel before and one panel after the climactic turning point, surrounding a panel representing the turning point itself. Each panel will exemplify a different transition type, creating a digital triptych that showcases various narrative transitions.

PROCESS WORK

1. Planning

Concept Board

Reference
I've decided to go with these pictures I found on Pinterest as a reference for the colours I intend to use:

2. Digitisation

Countdown (Before)
For the first panel, I illustrated the drummer's hands holding a drumstick and added the numbers to visualise the action.

Figure 2.1: First Panel Guideline

I coloured in the illustration using the paint tool and added grain to the background to make it fit my mood board, as I wanted most of the triptych to be grainy.

Figure 2.2: First Panel Outcome

First Song (Climate)
For the second panel, I illustrated the band members performing. I used a reference image to roughly trace out the band members.

Figure 2.3: Band Outline

After colouring in the outline, I added a few effects to the panel. I added visual sound effects, lighting and filled the background with speakers.

Crowd (After)
Zooming out on the scene, I wanted the whole venue to be seen so I added the band's audience. I also duplicated the band and decreased the size to make it look like they are further away.

3. Comic Strip
I went with a black background because I feel it compliments the overall aesthetic. This is the outcome after compiling each panel:
