The colour scheme for this is interesting. I like the idea of having a crayon-like composition and the pink outline of the main subject is a good addition.

I like this composition because of the duplicates of the main subject in different bright colours.

The idea of having a single circle makes the design minimalistic but at the same time compliments the composition really well.

2. DESIGN DIRECTION

Sketches

I have chosen this picture of myself because it captures the main topic of my composition, which is performing and being around music.

Figure 2.1: Self-portrait

I decided to add pictures of the crowd that I managed to capture at a local gig that I went to earlier this year. I felt like it would go well with my composition because it captures the energy of being in the local music industry.

I came up with a rough idea of how I wanted my composition to look like with the elements I intend to use. I also incorporated inspiration from the mood board.

Background
For the background of this composition, I used effects and pattern overlay for the textures to give off a pop art vibe. I also incorporated shapes to highlight the main parts of the composition better.

Other Elements
I used the object selection tool to cut out the crowd from the pictures in Figure 2.2 and 2.3. I gave these objects the Luminosity effect to blend it with the background, as they are meant to be additional elements and not the main subject.

Adding Main Subject
I used colour adjustments and filters to make my self-portrait suit the overall aesthetic. I then added an outline to the subject as a way to highlight the main subject.

Additional Elements to Main Subject
With the intention of making it more colourful, I duplicated the main subject as masks and used three different colours to emphasise the duplicates to add them along the subject.

Adding Text
In our Typography module, we were taught to create a custom font and the font is then to be used in our composition for this module. This is the font I have created using the set of characters that were provided:

The next step was to add text to my composition. With the characters I created, I formed the sentence "Lets sing to songs!" because it aligns with my composition. I applied the Screen filter to these fonts so that it blends with the background.

3. EXECUTION AND POST PRODUCTION

Rhythmic Reflections
Music has been the main highlight of my life growing up. It’s been a coping mechanism, a hobby, a career path and it’s reflected most of my life decisions, which is why I decided it needed to be the main aspect of my composition. I don’t have a main goal in life at the moment but ideally, I would just like to improve and gain more knowledge in what I am already interested in.

4. ANIMATION

Video Progress

I moved the position of the ‘Rectangle’ and ‘Circle’ so that it comes in from the right to left in the first 1 - 4 seconds.

Figure 4.1: Background Transition

For the second layer, I used the mask path to transition the crowd in the background from bottom to top. I placed this transition within the 4th to 6th second.

Figure 4.2: Additional Transition to Background

For my self portrait, I wanted it to seem like the coloured shadows were in one group with the main subject. So I added a mask path but changed the keyframes to a second later alternatively.

Figure 4.3: Main Subject and Shadow Transition

I did the same to the texts and added background music to my composition.

FINAL VIDEO

Rhythmic Reflections
In this animated composition, I made the elements transition within different timestamps so that it highlights the different layers. For instance, the background layer comes first, then the background elements, the main subject, the additional elements to the main subject and then the texts. I also used one of my band’s songs called “Silver Catfish” that we wrote at the end of 2022.
