List down 3 favourite graphic design work from Pinterest and explain why you like the designs.

Design #1

                                                           Figure 1.1: Composition Work 1

Description:
The idea of incorporating a bright colour with black and white images makes each object stand out. I also like that the background has different layers like the yellow smudges and the words on the magazine are cut out so that you can see bits and pieces of it.

Design #2
Figure 1.2: Composition Work 2

Description:
The cultural approach is aesthetically pleasing to look at. I like the elements that were put into this design especially the hand written letters and the signatures placed onto the white background. It makes it look like the design goes beyond the frame. The textured blue layer fills up the empty space in a way that makes the design overall neat.

Design #3
Figure 1.3: Composition Work 3

Description:
I like that this design layers the model as different elements but uses the orange colour to piece it together. The colour scheme overall is nice to look at and I like the incorporation of nature and greenery into a modern-like concept.

REFLECTION

Experience
Throughout this module, I have learned many concepts to understand Digital Photography and Imaging. It has definitely helped me open up to experimenting with my creativity more than I am used to. I gained skills in creating my own compositions physically and digitally. This module mainly focused on the use of Adobe Photoshop and After Effects. During the start of the semester, I had no knowledge when it came to using Photoshop whatsoever. But at the end of the semester, I could confidently say that I have a good grasp of the software. I've managed to come up with a digital composition that includes playing around with adjustments and filters, ways to blend an image with another and adding reflections by using effects, filters and the object selection tool. I also managed to colour black and white images, create a double exposure portrait of myself by utilising the clipping mask tool, combine two objects as a singular object and learned to animate my compositions on After Effects. In addition, Digital Photography and Imaging enhanced my photography skills because it requires good lighting and angles to take self-portraits, which led me to utilising objects I already have in my home.

Findings
There are different ways to apply the concept of Digital Photography and Imaging. There are rules and guidelines to follow but there are many ways you could apply them. When it comes to taking self-portraits, I find that an expensive camera is not necessary but good lighting is, either making use of natural light or indoor lighting. Next, practice is essential when it comes to using Photoshop. In the beginning, I would have to go back to video tutorials to ensure I was carrying out the right steps for my projects but I got the hang of it eventually. I have been applying it to most of my editing in the real world. It is also important to ensure that your compositions are aesthetically accurate. For instance, it is important to have a mood board beforehand so you know what type of concept to go for. It would not look nice if the pictures or elements used do not blend in well together, hence when adjustments and filters come in handy.

Observations
I have observed a drastic difference when it comes to the way I use Photoshop now. Instead of manually finding tools, I am able to use keyboard shortcuts, using this software more efficiently. My photography skills when taking pictures in general has improved a lot, after going through the concept of photography during lectures. The tutorials have been extremely helpful even though it was hard to grasp at the start. But once I got the hang of it, it was fun to play around with.
