2. VISUAL ANALYSIS
For the UNSDG goal, I have chosen Goal 2, which is zero hunger. The artwork I have chosen is "Support Local Farmers" by Ying Hui Tan because it highlights empowering local farmers, which is part of the main message to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

Observation
The design work is in portrait format. The centre of the design is a scenery of nature that includes a field of crops, trees, mountains and a river, which is normally seen at a farm. There are also local farmers carrying out activities in the farm and one that is happily greeting the crops. Around the centre of the design you can see fruits and vegetables floating around the centre and some are marching. The sign the crops are holding implies the main message of the design. You can also see that the Earth is smiling while it's reaching out to the crops. The art style is colourful and cartoon-like, as if it were made for a children's book. Children's books are generally easy to comprehend, which shows that this artwork is not meant to be complex.

Analysis
The design involves radial balance, where all elements radiate from a centre point. The idea of having the scenery of the farm bigger is to imply the contrast in scale to give the viewers a clearer idea on the main point of the poster. The artist also intends to show movement in this artwork to further emphasise the message that organic and fresh ingredients grown by local farmers makes the planet happy. Based on the use of art style, the elements work harmoniously together with the use of similar colour, shapes and textures. This is to show that the elements are working together (unity) towards a common goal. As mentioned earlier, the art style is cartoon-like to make it easier to comprehend.  In addition, this adds a message a positive message to the artwork. The use of word and image portrays this artwork as straightforward, which is to "Support Local Farmers".

Interpretation
These poster are designed by Ying Hui Tan, an artist born and raised in Malaysia who is passionate about illustrating and storytelling. Hui Tan is known to experiment with colours, movement and flow to deliver the smallest details and feelings into her work (YingHuiTan Illustrations, n.d). Hui Tan incorporates her love for Japanese anime into her artwork, now designing for games, cartoon series, 3D animations and now children's books (Cerrito, 2016) . The concept of 'Supporting Local Farmers' is for Hui Tan's participation to promote zero hunger for the World Food Week Campaign 2018. She incorporates her art style into her posters that emits a positive message to society.

4. FEEDBACK

Week 5 - 07/03/2024
Shorten the analysis because it has to be about 100-150 words per section. Study the artists' artwork and find other designs as an example. Refer to Lecture 6 for a better understanding of Phase 3, the interpretation.

5. REFLECTION

Week 5 - 07/03/2024
I was glad I chose Ying Hui Tan because I find her artwork interesting. So studying her art style helped me understand the intention behind her work better. I never paid attention to children's books as much, therefore I never understood the meaning. But  I realise with Hui Tan's ideation, it's easier to portray a message in a way everybody can comprehend. This task helped me grasp the design principles and how it correlates to one another to create a well visualised design.
