FINAL REFLECTION

What I learned in this module
I learned that it is important to get understand the concept of design in order to produce an artwork that has an impact on viewers. It is not only depending on your creativity, of course there is freedom to do anything. but a grasp of theory always applies to designing. Even visual references we use to find inspiration or influence applies designing theory. Getting to learn about the design principles helped me a lot with coming up with the final product. I studied different artists, analysing the types of design principles they use and how they apply their knowledge to their artwork. I also learned that despite trying to imitate someone's work in terms of art style or colour scheme, you will always find a way to make it your own. Experimenting as much as you can is always a good way to go.

What I enjoyed most
I enjoyed the research part of this project. I skimmed through many portfolios by different artists and I was intrigued by the many art styles that they work with, they were all unique in their own way and it was interesting to read about the backstory of the artwork and about the artist themselves. I also enjoyed using Adobe Illustrator to illustrate my design. I am still currently trying to figure out how to work the software, this gives me the opportunity to practice the tools. I played with effects and textures to help me get more familiar so I could improve my illustration skills.

What I did not enjoy most
Sketching was probably the part I enjoyed least. Pencil and paper is not my forte so I struggled trying to portray my ideas through sketching. But as long as I had a rough idea I could work my way around it when illustrating. Ideally I wanted add more detail to my elements but it was time consuming to figure out the tools through video tutorials. I also took time with figuring out what textures to use to make my elements stand out, I cannot deny it was stressful.

What I learned about myself throughout this module
Time management is extremely important and leaving it until the last minute would mean putting pressure in my decision making. Normally ideas would come with time and with thorough research, so doing work last minute does not leave room to fix mistakes or to alter things that I felt would look better for my design. I also learned to reflect a lot with the choices I make within this course. Writing about my thought process helps me gather my ideas so I do not forget it.

What changed and what has not in my learning journey
My research method changed. I would analyse the design principles used by the artist during my research process and it helps me understand the artwork better. I also learned new shortcut keys I could use on Adobe Illustrator. What has not changed is the way I look for visual reference and I guess my art style in a way has not changed because I realise the art I chose is somewhat similar to the colours I would choose.

What I could improve in this module
A way I could improve is to ensure my learning objectives are clear and that the assignment accomplishes the goal of the module overall before I begin my work. I would normally come up with a draft to show my lecturer and it does not line up with the task, so I would have to change it after. I would save time this way.
